Have you met Fred the flying duck? He's just flown in and can't wait to find his forever home on your wall! Fred is a very smart flying mallard duck, who can easily be hung on your living room wall to make a great faux taxidermy wall art decoration.

Each bird knitting kit is carefully handmade and packed by me, and will contain all the yarn and notions that you need to knit Fred the flying duck – No need to order all the different yarns and bits and pieces – you can sit back, relax, and start knitting straight away. It's all there for you!

If you'd like to add needles to your kit, a pair of high quality 25cm long 4mm Pony aluminium knitting needles are £2, and a pack of 2 Pony darning needles are £1.

Your flying duck knitting kit is presented in a large, stylish gift box, and bundled up in plastic-free, recyclable packaging. This bird knit kit is the perfect, original gift for a knitter, birder, or retro decor fan - they'll love knitting Fred, and the kit includes some cute bird stickers for them to enjoy, too!

What's included in your knit kit?

  • A full colour printed knitting pattern
  • 7 different colours of high quality, soft DK acrylic yarn
  • Polyester toy stuffing
  • Beads and thread
  • Wall hanging loops
  • Cute bird stickers

Is Fred suitable for beginners?

Yes. He is simply knitted flat on a pair of 4mm (UK 8/ US 6) knitting needles, making him an excellent project for a beginner who knows the basics of knitting: no need to knit in the round. He's a little more complicated to sew up than some of the easier kits, but full instructions are given in the pattern.

Basic knitting skills that you’ll need to know:

Knit stitch, purl stitch, increasing by knitting into the front and back of a stitch (inc 1) and decreasing by knitting 2 stitches together (k2tog). There’s colour-changing on some rows, so you will need to use Intarsia technique to change yarns mid-row. Head on over to my how to knit tutorials if you need any advice!

All kit and parcel packaging is plastic-free, and recyclable.

The gift box measures 28cm x 19cm x 8cm.

Fred the flying duck  is 24cm long from beak to tail.
