It's snow fun here at all at the moment - we have been snowed in for the last few days, which means that Royal Mail have been unable to make any collections from me since the weekend.
I think I have contacted everyone who has an order currently sitting in my hall waiting to go out - but if I've missed anyone, I'm really sorry for the delays! It's starting to thaw a little today so I am hoping that things will be on the move again soon.
When there is heavy snow like this, living in Caithness is like being on an island. The only main road down south has been shut, and as a result, supermarkets have been running out of basics as they cannot get deliveries. Our local hospital has been sending patients down to Inverness for emergency treatment, using a helicopter. I haven't had a Royal Mail delivery since the new year.
Luckily we have enough food and fuel in to see us through. Starting to run out of bird food though, which is a bit worrying. I have been going through the kitchen cupboards and using up all the out of date food that has been sitting in the back of the shelf for years. This morning all the garden birds were treated to brown rice (cooked, no salt). They weren't sure at first but it went down really well!
Take care and all the best for 2026!
Nicky
