Diana's Diversity Duckies

I was very touched to read this beautiful piece of writing by one of my online friends, Diana. In it she reflects on the stress of current global events, by composing a letter to her 4-year-old grandson.

In it she tells him that she is hopeful for the future, despite all the horrors that are going on in the world:

"I cannot see the future of course, but I can help cultivate and create it. One way I have done that was by knitting you some stuffies when you were very young, two different looking parent ducks plus a flock of ducklings, all of which were of different colors, some had tatoos, some even had different abilities (as examples, some were minus a wing, or had an injured wing, or had only one eye, had unusual tails or hair, etc etc).

Life is and should be quite varied, that is a strength, not a defect! Life is not uniform, it comes in all kinds of sizes and shapes and abilities, which is called diversity. Here are just a few of your ducky stuffies, which together is one large diverse group of family and friends playing with each other and also helping each other when needed."

Diversity is a strength, not a defect. How wonderful is that? I'm so touched that Diana used my rubber ducks knitting pattern to make this fantastic, diverse family of ducks for her grandson. If you'd like to make some, here's the rubber duck pattern in my Etsy shop.
